Job description
A highly experienced and professional Private Yacht Captain is required to oversee the operations of a 49m luxury motor yacht based in Bodrum, Turkey. The ideal candidate will have a strong leadership background, extensive maritime experience, and a deep understanding of vessel maintenance and operations.
The role requires a hands-on captain who is results-oriented, adaptable, and highly service-focused while ensuring smooth daily operations and an exceptional guest experience. The captain must be able to bond quickly with people, establish strong relationships with crew members and guests, and work well within a team.
A long-term commitment is required, and the successful candidate must agree to undergo a comprehensive background check conducted by a security company hired by the client.
Responsibilities
Navigation & Vessel Operations:
- Oversee the safe and efficient navigation of the yacht, ensuring compliance with all maritime laws and regulations.
- Plan and execute voyage routes, considering weather conditions, security, and operational needs.
- Ensure the vessel is always ready for owner and guest use, maintaining a high standard of readiness.
Crew Management & Leadership:
- Lead and manage a team of 11 crew members, fostering a professional and service-oriented atmosphere.
- Handle crew recruitment, training, and performance management.
- Ensure seamless coordination among the crew for onboard hospitality, maintenance, and technical operations.
Vessel Maintenance & Repairs:
- Oversee off-season vessel preparation and repairs, ensuring a clear understanding of required stages, tools, timelines, and expected results.
- Manage year-round maintenance, ensuring the crew efficiently handles routine servicing and minor repairs.
- Work closely with shipyards, contractors, and suppliers for major refits and servicing.
Owner & Guest Services:
- Ensure the highest level of service, discretion, and professionalism while catering to the owner’s needs.
- Provide a smooth and luxurious onboard experience for the owner and guests.
- Adapt to the owner’s preferences and proactively anticipate needs.
Financial & Administrative Duties:
- Manage budgets and financial planning for fuel, maintenance, repairs, and crew salaries.
- Oversee inventory, provisioning, and supplier negotiations.
- Ensure all necessary permits, licenses, and documentation are up to date and valid for at least 1 year.
Requirements
Education: Formal maritime education Licenses & Certifications: Possession of all necessary maritime permits and documents, valid for at least 1 year (Mandatory)
Experience :
- 10+ years as a yacht captain (Mandatory)
- 3+ years with one private owner/family (Mandatory)
- Experience operating yachts 35m+ (Mandatory)
- Familiarity with Turkish waters (Preferred) Technical Knowledge & Vessel Maintenance
- Expertise in off-season vessel repairs and full understanding of stages, tools, and timelines (Mandatory)
- Ability to organize and oversee year-round maintenance by the crew (Mandatory)
- Crew Management: Proven ability to recruit, train, and manage a professional crew (Mandatory)
- Results-oriented and proactive, with strong decision-making skills
